Extracurricular Robotics and Programming in Madrid

The beginning of the new year promises to surprise the educational community with a very special novelty. After the success of the results obtained by the IGNITE Method's guarantee of success. with thousands of students from extracurricular robotics and programming, starting in 2023, numerous schools in the community of Madrid will begin to implement this innovative methodology.

The benefits of these technological extracurricular activities They become evident after a short time: high level of motivation, greater confidence in problem solving, more creative solutions, application of analytical thinking in logical problems, adaptability, resilience, valuing the ideas of teammates...

 Families - and of course, the educational centers themselves - are very clear that extracurricular activities are an essential and complementary part of education. You do not have to convince them of the importance that English or sports activities have for the education of their children. But... and the robotics? the programming? he 3D design? What use will they be for you in the future? The answer to these questions lies in the very essence of IGNITE Method's guarantee of success. and their way of working STEAM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths).

We train every day for the future

Just as we go to the gym to get our body in shape and strengthen our health, STEAM extracurriculars from IGNITE train our mind to be more robust and flexible. With them we work on a key skill for the future: the ability to solve problems. And we do it in English in all our activities, since the future will be global, interconnected and collaborative, probably with teams made up of people from very diverse origins and cultures.

First point. No one doubts that an adult life with intense technological interaction awaits our students. Most likely, their profession will involve “understanding” expert systems (AI) that will complement their knowledge, help them make better decisions and force them to stay permanently updated. This factor alone already requires structuring the mind in a way that fits perfectly with the computational thinking. On the other hand, the use of coding and programming languages ​​will be nothing short of essential for these new professions. It will also be essential to understand virtual environments and know how to interact effectively with them, a skill that project work in 3D Design and Virtual Reality It is enormously powerful and hybridizes with coding, teaching how to program interactive worlds.

 Second, flexibility. The ability to adapt is the key factor. This is a constant in the history of Humanity: we have gotten here thanks to our stubbornness and this important evolutionary advantage. In our projects, whether it is a robotic challenge, coding programming structures or creating a 3D building in a virtual world, the main learning is to train the mind in the face of unforeseen problems and be able to develop a solution. own and personal. 

Third, purpose. Technology is a very powerful tool that must be used consciously and responsibly so that it truly becomes a means of progress. What world do we want to live in? A planet at the limit of its capabilities in which resources are wasted, endangering the survival of its inhabitants? Or a society aware that we are part of the same system, that uses technology in a sustainable way and in harmony with Nature? At IGNITE we align ourselves with the effort that families and the entire educational community are making so that sustainability be a key element of STEAM learning. For this reason, our projects incorporate and make visible the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the United Nations.

Fourth, trust. In our educational stage, we open ourselves to the world, establish increasingly complex cognitive and emotional connections and discover the strengths (and weaknesses) that shape our personality. Lastly (although the most important point), motivation. The attitude of students depends largely on whether learning is meaningful and exciting to them. The design of the challenges, understood as an adventure in which we chain challenges of progressive difficulty, triggers achievements and recognitions that stimulate students to continue evolving and give visibility to their successes. Deploying this educational project in the various schools of the country, and now in a more intense way in Madrid, is an objective that excites us and stimulates us to continue expanding the community of Igniters in the 2023.
